Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday (Sept. 23) against Trine in its second sweep of the year. The Scots' hit 22.3 percent for the game, their highest hit percentage in a match this season.
With the win, Alma improves to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association while Trine falls to 7-6 and 3-3.
Brianna Zimmer (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) finished with a career-high .276 hit percentage and 10 kills. The kills were one shy of her career-high, set earlier this year at Kalamazoo. She also added 13 digs, a game-high along with Haley Novak (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) and Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott Country).
What Happened
- The Scots took the first set 25-20. Up 11-10, they took control of the set with a 7-0 run behind kills by Miller and Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich. / Gaylord). Trine got the score to within three toward the end of the set, but a kill by Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) and an attack error by Molly Smith gave the first set to Alma.
- The Scots were in complete control of the second set. It started with an 8-3 advantage and continued with a 10-2 run to break a 9-9 tie and take a 19-11 lead. Muxlow had five of her seven kills in the set while Zimmer added four.
- Alma kept the pressure on in the third set. It went on an 8-3 run to extend an 11-9 lead to 19-12. Bush posted five of her seven kills in the set while Novak had three kills and two aces.
Notables
- Muxlow had a hit percentage of .462 to lead the team. She was one four Scots to post a hit percentage of over .200 in the match.
- Bush had two solo blocks in the match, tying her season-high.
- Pelach led all players with 21 assists; Novak added 12, the second most of any player.
