Box Score 2 Alma, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team went 1-1 in its first day of action in the 2017 season at the Mount Union Invitational. It began with a loss to Wooster followed by a 3-1 win over SUNY Geneseo.
Sophomore Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky./Scott Country) led the team with 22 kills, 15 of which came against Geneseo. Fifteen kills is also a career-high for Miller. Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) had 32 assists in the two matches while Miranda Shafer (Norton Shores, Mich./Western Michigan Christian/St. Clair County CC) had 23 of the other 34.
What Happened
- Alma fell 3-0 to Wooster. Freshman Emma O'Keefe (Linden, Mich./Linden), Miller and junior Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) led the team with seven kills, each. Pelach tallied half of her 32 kills in the match. O'Keefe led the team with a .389 attack percentage.
- The team rebounded with a 3-1 win over Geneseo. Miller led the team with 15 kills and 15 digs, while Pelach paced the team in assists with 16 once more. She also added 14 digs.
- Alma took the first set 29-27 and fell in the second 23-25.
- In the final two sets, the Scots capitalized off 17 errors by Geneseo, pushing them to a 25-21 win in the third set and a 25-22 win in the fourth.
Notables
- Alma also split its first two games last year, albeit not on the same day.
- The most kills Miller had prior to today was 11 at Olivet on October 8, 2016.
- Miller also set a career high in attack percentage at .342.
- Eight freshmen saw action in the two matches.
What's Next?
The Scots continue to play in the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday. They'll face Allegheny College at 10:00 a.m. and Denison University at 2:00 p.m.
