Olivet, Mich. - The Alma College baseball team swept Olivet College in the final doubleheader of the 2017 season, winning Game 1, 10-3, before posting a 12-3 victory in the season finale. The Scots finish the season with a 15-25 record, including a 13-15 mark in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association to tie for fourth place in the final standings.

Senior Alex Peczynski (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) led Alma with six hits, including three doubles, and hit .600 with three RBIs for the day. Peczynski finished his career with 151 hits, second all time and one shy of the school record. In addition, he scored five runs in the two games to set the school record for career runs scored (94), surpassing Steve Slowke's 90 runs from 2000-03. 

Junior Matthew Minaudo (Clinton Township, Mich./De La Salle Collegiate) recorded five hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs in the two-game set, while senior Adam Thoryk (Syracuse, N.Y./John C. Birdlebough/St. John Fisher) tallied a team-high four RBIs.

Alma will graduate eight seniors from the program - Alex Valasek (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic Central), Edward Farington (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side), Jerome Jackson (Harper Woods, Mich./Harper Woods), Peczynski, Greg Goffee (Dexter, Mich./Dexter), Thoryk, Patrick Finn (Allenton, Mich./Almont) and Mike Mallory (Ithaca, Mich./Ithaca).

Game 1 - Alma 10, at Olivet 3

Alex Peczynski went 3-for-4 with two doubles while freshman Josh Riggs (Irons, Mich./Brethren) struck out seven batters as the Scots jumped on the Comets, scoring the game's first 10 runs.

Alma added scored twice in the first and third innings, then blew the game open with six runs in the top of the fourth. Adam Thoryk, Max Trucks and Ben Finzel all had a pair of RBIs for the Scots in the win.

The Comets scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and once in the bottom of the fifth, but the Scots' defense kept them off the board for the remainder of the game, holding Olivet to no hits in the final two innings.

Game 2 - Alma 12, at Olivet 3

Greg Goffee went 4-for-6, while Alex Peczynski notched three hits - including a double - and a pair of RBIs as the Scots finished the season with a win. Matthew Minaudo also recorded three hits in five at-bats and led the team with three RBIs and a pair of doubles.

Junior Eric Frontzak (Naperville, Ill./Montini Catholic) pitched 8.1 innings, striking out nine batters, while Edward Farington and sophomore Jordan Masters (Waterford, Mich./Kettering) saw relief action in the ninth inning, with each player pitching a third of an inning.

The score was tied, 3-3, after three innings before Alma scored nine unanswered runs to pull away.
