Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's tennis team closed out the 2017 season with a win on Friday (April 28), sweeping Olivet College, 9-0, at the Superior Street Tennis Courts. The Scots close out the season with a 6-11 overall record, including a 2-5 mark in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while the Comets finished the year winless at 0-16 and 0-7 in the MIAA.
Alma opened the match with victories in the three doubles matches, including the No. 1 team of junior Luke Van Fleet (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and Damien Arthur (Allegan, Mich./Allegan), which posted an 8-5 victory to give the Scots their first conference win at the top doubles flight.
Senior Grant Hill (Caro, Mich./Caro) closed out his career with a victory at No. 1 singles and finished the year with victories in three of his final four matches.
Van Fleet picked up his first conference win at No. 2 singles, while Arthur gave Alma its first conference point at No. 6 singles with a 6-4, 6-4, victory.
The Scots graduate two seniors - Arthur and Hill - from the program.
