Auburndale, Fla. - The Alma College baseball team continued its spring break trip on Monday (Feb. 27) with two games at Lake Myrtle Sports Park, taking on Capital University (OH) and Franklin College (IN).

The Scots (0-4) dropped both contests and are still in search of their first win of the season. 

Game 1: Capital 3, Alma 1

Senior Mike Mallory (Ithaca, Mich. / Ithaca) started on the hill for the Scots, pitching seven innings and allowing only two earned runs on six hits. The final inning pitched for the team was split between freshman Jordan Masters (Waterford, Mich. / Kettering) and sophomore Bailey O'Keefe (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek). Neither pitcher allowed a hit in the inning.

With the game 2-1 in favor of the Crusaders, the Scots were poised to enter the sixth inning with momentum until an unfortunate error in the outfield gave a free at bat to Capital. The next at bat resulted in a double by Logan Bastin of the Crusaders, scoring the runner from first. The Scots could not rally in the final three innings to close gap.

Game 2: Franklin 19, Alma 2

On the hill to start the second game of the day for Alma was freshman Ben Blake (Sanford, Mich. / Meridian), making his collegiate debut. In the first four innings of the game, Blake only allowed one earned run and the score stood at 3-0 Franklin.

The Grizzlies blew the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning, scoring seven runs between three pitchers. Just two innings later, Franklin threw up another seven-run rally, ultimately putting the game away.

Alma will have Tuesday, Feb. 28, away from competition, and will return to action on Wednesday, March 1, against the Panthers of Hanover College (IN). The game is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
