Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team surrendered a 15-point lead in the second half on Wednesday (Feb. 15) night, falling to Albion College by a 70-67 margin at Art Smith Arena. With the loss, the Scots drop to a fourth-place tie with the Britons with one game to play in the regular season.

Freshman Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) led Alma with 16 points, while senior Trevor Gernaat (McBain, Mich./Northern Michigan Christian/Mid-Michigan CC) added 15 points, as each player hit four three pointers. As a team, the Scots made 40 long-distance attempts in the game, connecting on 12 for a 30 percent rate.

Albion (10-14, 7-6 MIAA) was led by Corey Wheeler's 15 points.

Alma held a 43-31 lead at halftime, and took a 15-point lead early in the second half at 46-31, only to watch the Brits chip away and take a 57-56 advantage with 9:24 to play. Albion built up an eight-point spread at 65-57 with just under six minutes left, but Alma fought back, posting a 10-3 run to get within one point at 68-67 with 47 seconds to play.

Albion's Mitchell Rubio hit a shot with 24.7 seconds left to increase the Britons lead to three points at 70-67, but the Scots still had a chance to tie the game, forcing a turnover on their end of the floor with 12.6 seconds on the clock. Gernaat missed a three-point attempt with under five seconds to play and Albion collected the ball off of a turnover to win the game.

The Scots will close out the 2016-17 regular season on Saturday, hosting Olivet at 5:00 p.m. Prior to the game, Alma will honor the program's five seniors, while at halftime, a special ceremony will take place to honor former head football coach Jim Cole. In addition, it will be alumni day, with former Alma College men's basketball players in attendance.
