Box Score Alma, Mich. - After battling back from down two sets to none, the Alma College women's volleyball team fell in five sets (22-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 12-15) to Trine University on Wednesday evening. Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) led the team in kills with 12, Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) led with 22 assists and Molly Lark (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg) was in front with 18 digs.
With the score tied at 19 in the third set, the Scots (6-3, 2-2 MIAA) went on a 5-0 run to take control and eventually earn the win 25-21. Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) picked up two aces and three assists on Alma's run to close the set. She is currently third on the team in aces (12) and second in assists (165).
The Scots also controlled the fourth set early, beginning with a 6-1 lead and closing the set on an 8-3 run. Four of Bush's 12 kills came in this set which was punctuated by Kara Muxlow (Brown City, Mich./Brown City).
The fifth set was tightly contested as Alma went on a 4-0 run to go from down 8-6 to up 10-8. Following the run, Trine (2-7, 2-2 MIAA) bounced back and took a 12-10 lead before ending the game on an ace.
Alma returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when they travel to take on Saint Mary's College in an MIAA matchup.
