Adrian, Mich. - The Alma College baseball team saw its season ended on Thursday (May 13) evening in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball Tournament at Nicolay Field, falling to Hope College by a 12-2 margin. The Scots, who endured a three-hour rain delay during the contest, finish the year with a 28-15 record, marking the most wins in school history for the baseball program.

Senior Dayne San Miguel (Wheeler, Mich./Breckenridge/Kellogg CC) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while senior Yoan De La Rosa (Bronx, N.Y./Morris/Monroe College) and junior Alex Peczynski (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) went 2-for-3. Senior Doug Walters (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) also registered two hits in the game, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Senior Colin Nash (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) pitched the opening inning and faced the first three batters after the rain delay, but was replaced by senior Blake Ordiway (Holly, Mich./Holly) in the bottom of the second. Ordiway threw seven innings, striking out nine batters.

Hope built a 3-0 lead before the rain came, then increased its lead to 7-0 after scoring twice in the bottom of the second and third innings.

Alma's runs came in the top of the sixth inning when San Miguel hit a single to left field, scoring De La Rosa and Walters. Walters had singled to open the inning, while De La Rosa hit a double to right field during his at-bat.

The Dutch added five runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull away for the win.

Hope advances to face Kalamazoo in the MIAA Tournament Championship game, which is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13. If Hope wins, another game will be played at 3:00 p.m. to determined the champion and the recipient to the MIAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.

NOTES

• Doug Walters tied the school record with 37 RBIs this season, both of which came earlier in the day against Adrian. The mark ties Mark Gilling, who recorded 37 RBIs in 1988.
• Matthew Minaudo's 155 at-bats this season is a school record, topping Brent Neubecker's 139 in 1995.
• Greg Goffee's 25 stolen bases in 2016 ranks second in Alma College baseball history.
• Blake Ordiway made his 19th appearance of the season, tying the school record for most appearances in a single year. Phil Jock (2014) is the other Scot who holds the record with Ordiway.
• The 2016 team set school records for hits, doubles, RBIs, runs scored, and wins.
