Holland, Mich. - Playing in a match originally scheduled for April 3, the Alma College men's tennis team fell to Adrian College by a 6-3 margin on the campus of Hope College on Friday (April 8) afternoon. Both teams were at Hope College to participate in the MIAA-NCAC Challenge, which is being hosted by the Flying Dutchmen.
With the loss, the Scots fall to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA, while the Bulldogs improve to 9-5 and a perfect 2-0 in the league.
Alma captured one of the three doubles matches, with sophomore Noah Ackerman (Munising, Mich./Munising) and junior Grant Hill (Caro, Mich./Caro) teaming up to post an 8-5 victory over Jeff Sophiea and Jon Rhind. The No. 2 doubles match went into a tiebreaker, with sophomore Luke Van Fleet (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and junior Damien Arthur (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) falling by a score of 7-3 to drop a 9-8 match to Brandon Brom and Mitchel Bulger.
In singles competition, the Bulldogs took the top three singles bouts. Hill won at No. 4 singles, defeating Bulger, 6-1, 6-2, while Arthur topped Rhind in the No. 6 singles match by a 6-3, 6-3 margin.
Alma will remain in Holland to face Wabash College as part of the MIAA-NCAC Challenge on Saturday, April 9. The match is scheduled for a 9:00 a.m. start.
