Men's tennis blanks Olivet for first MIAA win

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College tennis team defeated visiting Olivet College, 9-0, on Wednesday (April 13) afternoon at the Alma College Tennis Courts. The Scots improved to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, winning their first conference match of the season. Olivet, which restarted its tennis program this year after suspending the program in 1995, fell to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the MIAA. 

Alma won in straight sets in every singles matches and triumphed by a 6-0, 6-0 margin in five of the six matchups. Senior Jared Guy (Portland, Mich./Portland) fought off Olivet's Max Grabel at No. 1 singles, winning by a 6-4, 6-0 margin.

In doubles, all three teams for Alma won by 8-0 scores.

The Scots remain home to host the Hope College Flying Dutchmen on Saturday, April 16. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at the Alma College Tennis Courts.
