Box Score Alma, Mich. – The Alma College volleyball team battled repeatedly against No. 5 Hope College on Friday evening before coming up short, falling in straight sets (21-25, 18-25, 16-25) to the nationally-ranked Flying Dutch. Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord), Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) and Madison Smith (Westphalia, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) led the team in kills with seven, five and five, respectively. Molly Lark (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg) led in digs with seven and Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) had eight assists.
The first set was well-fought, with the Scots trailing Hope 11-18 and coming back with some well-timed kills and blocks by Pelach and Bush. Taking off on a several-point run, Alma brought its score to 18-20 but ended up dropping the set by a narrow margin of 21-25.
The Flying Dutch took the next two sets against the Scots with scores of 25-18 and 25-16.
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they travel to Olivet College to face the Comets. The match-up is set to start at 11:00 a.m.
