Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team won its final game of the season to Kalamazoo 3-1 (30-28, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22) on Friday evening. It was the second time Alma defeated the Hornets this season, the other being a 3-0 win on September 28.
Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) led the team in kills with 13, Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) led in assists with 25, followed closely behind by Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) who had 23, and Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky./Scott Country) led in digs with 18. Pelach posted a line of nine kills, 25 assists and 17 digs, finishing one kill way from her seventh triple-double of the season.
Alma (13-14, 8-8 MIAA) took the first set by posting a .306 hit percentage and racking up 20 kills. The set was tight throughout - there were 15 ties and the biggest lead three for the Scots. They took the set after a kill by Madison Smith (Westphalia, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) and an attack error from Kalamazoo (9-18, 2-13 MIAA).
After dropping the second set, the Scots started the third set on a 12-2 run and closed it on a 6-1 run. They kept that momentum to start the fourth set, jumping out to another 6-1 run. After Kalamazoo came back to tie the score at 16 and tale a 21-20 lead, Alma stormed back and closed the set and the match on a 5-1 run.
Head Coach Alex Leja's first season concludes with a 13-14 overall record and an 8-8 conference record.
