Alma Stays in Playoff Picture with 3-1 Win Over Adrian on Senior Day

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's volleyball team hosted Adrian College on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in Art Smith Arena, winning in their second matchup of the season against the Bulldogs, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18).

Nine seniors were honored in their last home match of the season. They are Madison Smith (Westphalia, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalila), Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern), Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc), Mary Rieger (Prudenville, Mich./Houghton Lake), Gillian Young (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids), Jackie Vyskocil (Clarkston, Mich./Notre Dame Prep), Molly Lark (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg), Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores), and Anne MacNeil (Brethren, Mich./Brethren).

After embarking on a 3-0 run to start off the first game, the Scots (12-13, 7-7 MIAA) led throughout and took the set 25-20. The team had 13 kills, including four from Smith and two each from junior Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) and freshman Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky./Scott Country). Georgia also led the set with five digs, and setter Maressa Miller had six assists.

The Bulldogs (14-11, 8-5) tied things up in the second set, taking it 25-21, though the Scots led in kills with 16 to Adrian's 13. Five of those kills were contributed by Laykova. She also led the team with seven digs in the set.

Alma battled back in set three, taking it by a score of 25-21. Laykova added five kills and two digs to her totals, and Pelach also tallied four more kills and five assists.

In the fourth set, the Scots posted a 6-0 run to take control of the set with a 15-7 lead. They would go on to take the set 25-18. Smith had five kills in the set, Pelach had two and six assists and Georgia Miller had four kills. The Scots had 57 kills total in the match to Adrian's 39.

The Scots return to action on Tuesday, October 25 at No. 1 Calvin College in Grand Rapids, though the updated national rankings are released on Tuesday. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
