Scots Sweep Trine for Fourth Win in Last Five Matches

Angola, Ind. - The Alma College women's volleyball team swept Trine University 3-0 on Tuesday evening (25-15, 25-19, 25-14) to win its fourth match in its last five. The Scots tallied 10 aces in the match, tied for the second most they have posted all year. They also notched their third highest kill percentage of the year of .220.

Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) led the team in kills with 10, kill percentage with .421 and assists with 16. Molly Lark (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg) dug a game-high 15 attacks and Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky./Scott Country) had a game-high three service aces.

"Another great night worth of wins," said Head Coach Alex Leja. "Varsity did it in three and JV got the job done in two!."

Alma (11-12, 6-6 MIAA) took the first set by posting 16 kills and a game-high kill percentage of .394. Down 8-9, Alma ran off seven straight points to take a 15-9 lead, then closed the set on a another 7-0 run. In the first set alone, Pelach tallied five kills, five assists, one ace and one block assist.

The second set saw Alma commit five errors but receive eight points off of Thunder errors, as well. The Scots got control of the set off a 6-1 run to turn a deficit of one into a lead of four. After Trine (3-22, 2-10 MIAA) pulled to within one at 16-15, Alma went on a 9-4 run to win the set 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

"The girls have continued to work hard in practice, using every touch to get better. Tonight was the result of the hard work and the focus on making improvements that the girls are willing to put into practices and matches every day."

Alma began the third set on an 8-1 run behind a balanced offensive attack. It would go on to close out the set and the match on a 5-1 run. Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern), Miller and Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) finished behind Pelach in kills with eight, six and five, respectively. Sells also posted a kill percentage of .333 with no errors on the day.

"If we can maintain urgency in serve receive, and we can offensively produce the way we did in the 1st or 3rd set, we will be a tough team to beat."

Alma's next match is on Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Saint Mary's in its annual Pink Game. The Scots were swept by Saint Mary's earlier this season.
