Alma takes down Adrian in a come back victory, 3-2

Adrian, Mich. - The Alma College women's team continued conference play on the road traveling to the Merillat Gym on the campus of Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. The Scots had a come back victory over the Bulldogs, 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-11). 

The first set was a back and forth game for both teams where the Scots ultimately took the set 25-23. Alma forced Adrian into a time out after freshman Maria Feldpausch (White Cloud, Mich./White Cloud) connected with sophomore Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) for the 24-22 lead. A kill from junior Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern) ended the set as the Scots took the early 1-0 lead. 

In the second set Alma found themselves in the lead, 11-9 after a kill from senior Hannah Guilford (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) but Adrian went on a 9-1 to take the 18-12 lead. This streak would ultimately seal the second set of the match 25-19, tying the game 1-1.

Adrian capitalized off of Alma's seven errors taking the third set 25-18 to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 advantage over the Scots.

Alma jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the fourth set after a kill from Guilford but an 11-4 run for Adrian put them up 12-8. Two quick kills a piece from Pelach and junior Madison Smith (Westphalia, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) knotted the game and the Scots never looked back taking set four 25-19.

In the final 15 point set Alma nabbed a 9-1 lead on an ace from Guilford taking control of the final set of the day. An Adrian attacking error finished the game and the Scots won the fifth set 15-11.

Guilford paced the way with her seventh double double of the season for a season high 20 kills and a tallied 16 kills. Pelach followed with a double double of her own, 13 kills and 25 assists. Junior Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) finished with a season high 11 kills on the evening, while junior Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) notched a career high 19 digs. 

At the end of the day the Scots improve to 6-10 on the year and improve to 3-4 in conference play, while Adrian drops to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Alma will stay on the road traveling to Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio on Oct. 2 with game time set for 3:00 p.m.
