Box Score

Angola, Ind. - After a long night of play yesterday (Sept. 25) the Alma College volleyball team rallied this morning and traveled to Angola, Ind. to take on the Thunder of Trine University, where they were defeated 3-0 (20-25, 15-25, 23-25). At the end of the day Alma fell to 5-10 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA, while Trine improved to 6-8 on the season and 4-3 in conference play.

In the first set Alma found themselves down quickly from Trine, 10-1. A rally from the Scots and a kill from junior Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) but Alma within striking distance only down, 10-16. The Thunder would unfortunately answer to the Scots bringing them down 25-20 in the first set of the day.

Alma began the second match by capitalizing off of Trine's errors keeping the set close, only down 11-8 but a 10-2 run gave the Thunder a lead that Alma was unable to come back from ultimately being brought down 25-15 in set two.

The final set gave the Scots hope as they kept the ball game knotted 10-10 after a service ace from junior Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc). The match was tied one more time at 12-12 but seven Alma errors gave Trine their 25-23 final set win.

Sells and senior Maggie Miller (Frankfort, Mich./Frankfort) both finished the day leading Alma with six kills, followed by senior Hannah Guilford (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) who added five kills. Defensive specialist, junior Molly Lark (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple-Kellogg) led the Scots with 11 digs in the afternoons debut, while Miller had three service aces.

Alma's next match will be on the road, continuing conference play in Adrian, Mich. at Adrian College on Wednesday (Sept. 30) with game time set for 6:30 p.m.

QUOTES

Head Coach Sarah Dehring

on the match...

"We can't decide when we want to play and win matches. We let them get up in every set and had to fight back to try to win and versus a team like Trine, you cannot do that. We also need a leader to emerge from this group."
