After a thrilling match yesterday against Trine University (IN) at home, the Alma College Men's Tennis team looked the end the regular season on a high note when they welcomed Calvin College to campus for a match at the Superior Street Tennis Complex.
Mirroring yesterday's action, the Scots pulled out the win in the final match, defeating the Knights 5-4 thanks to another clinching victory by Jr. Jared Guy (Portland/Portland) at second singles.
The victory gave the Scots a fourth place finish in the league and a date with champion Kalamazoo College in the Semi-Finals of the MIAA playoffs. That match will be on Thursday, April 30 at 4:00 p.. in Kzoo.
With the win against Calvin, Alma ended the regular season with a 6-10 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play.
Following a loss at second doubles, the duo of So. Grant Hill (Caro/Caro) and So. Damien Arthur (Allegan/Allegan) would tie the score with a 8-5 victory at third position.
The Scots would drop the final doubles match of the afternoon to head in to singles play down 2-1.
At fourth singles, Hill knotted the score at 2-2 with a 6-1,6-1 victory.
The Knights would win the next two matches, before Fr. Luke Van Fleet (Rockford/Rockford) would earn the win at fifth singles 6-0,6-4.
At sixth singles, Fr. Noah Ackerman (Munising/Munising) got the win 7-5,7-6 to tie the score at 4-4 with just one match remaining.
With the score knotted at 4-4, the Scots would once again turn to Guy to bring home the victory.
For the second-straight day, Guy was victorious at second position, getting the win 2-6,6-2,6-4 to seal the Alma victory 5-4.
