Alma Baseball falls 8-4 at Kalamazoo on Monday afternoon

After having the second game of yesterday's doubleheader postponed due to weather, the Alma College Baseball team traveled back to Kalamazoo on Monday for one seven inning game against the Hornets. Despite loading the bases in the seventh, the Scots would fall 8-4 to Kalamazoo for the second-straight day at Woodworth Park.

Following the loss, Alma now sits at 11-7 on the year and 2-4 in the MIAA. The Hornets improve to 9-5 overall behind a perfect 6-0 record in league play.

So. OF Pat Finn (Allentown/Almont) led off the game by getting hit by a pitch, he then stole second to give Alma one man on with no outs. Finn would advance to third on a groundout, before being brought home off a groundout to the catcher by Jr. C Doug Walters (Brighton/Brighton). Sr. OF Yoan Delrosa (Bronx, NY/Morris) followed with a single before Jr. OF Jose Corneil (Bronx, NY/Norman Thomas) would reach on an error by the catcher to give the Scots two runners on base with two outs. The inning would end with a fly out to put Alma up 1-0 after the first half inning.

The Hornets would quickly respond, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first to take the 2-1 lead after one.

The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the third when Kalamazoo would add four more runs to extend the lead to 6-1.

The home team would tack on two more runs in the fourth to stretch the advantage to 8-1 with three innings remaining.

Finn led off the fifth with a walk, before Walters connected on a triple to right field for his second RBI of the afternoon. The Scots ended the inning with two strikeouts and the scoreboard read 8-2 heading in to the sixth.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the score still 8-2, Delrosa dropped a single to center field then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Jr. OF David Carles (Staten Island, NY/Petrides) followed with a walk, then Sr. IF Juan Dominguez (New York, NY/Blue Ridge) recorded a single to load the bases. Sr. OF Blake Leddy (Saginaw/Swan Valley) stepped to the plate and hit a single to center, scoring Carles and Delrosa to cut the deficit to 8-4 with two outs. Alma would not be able to manufacture any more runs in the inning and fell to the Hornets 8-4 for the second-straight day.

Walters led the Scots with two hits two RBI, while Leddy went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

On the mound, Jr. LHP Philip Jock (Wales/Memphis) gave up eight runs (eight earned) on 10 hits while walking five to fall to 2-1 on the year.

Alma is scheduled to play Kalamazoo at home tomorrow, March 31, in a doubleheader set to start at 2:00 p.m.
