Box Score On a chilly spring afternoon, the Alma College Baseball team traveled to Kalamazoo College to faceoff with the Hornets. The Scots would drop game one on the road 8-4, before weather prevented the second game from being played. The makeup for game two is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, at Kalamazoo.
With the loss, Alma drops to 11-6 on the year and 2-3 in the MIAA. The Hornets improve to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in league play with the victory.
The home team jumped out to a big lead early, scoring five runs to take the 5-0 lead after the first three innings.
In the fourth, So. OF Pat Finn (Allentown/Almont) would walk then advance to second thanks to a single by Jr. C Doug Walters (Brighton/Brighton) to left field. Finn would score from second off a Hornet error and Walters would advance to third. Sr. OF Yoan Delrosa (Bronx, NY/Morris) followed with a single to score Walters from third and bring the Scots within three at 5-2 with only one out. Pinch runner So. IF Jerome Jackson (Harper Woods/Harper Woods) would score on a fielder's choice to make it 5-3, before Sr. OF Blake Leddy (Saginaw/Swan Valley) brought in Delrosa from third with a groundout. Heading in to the bottom of the fourth, the Scots were down only one at 5-4.
Kalamazoo answered in a big way, scoring three more runs in the fifth to extend its lead to 8-4.
Down 8-4 in the top of the seventh, the Scots had one last shot to come back. Jr. OF Jose Corniel (Bronx, NY/Norman Thomas) led off the inning by reaching base on an error, before advancing to second off a fielder's choice by Leddy. Alma would not be able to score either runner, ending the inning with a strikeout and a pop up, to fall 8-4 in game one.
The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to weather conditions. Makeup for that game will be on Tuesday, March 31, at Kalamazoo.
