The Alma College Men's Tennis team began conference play on Thursday, traveling to the Ungrodt Tennis Center to take on Albion College. The Scots were dominant on the road, winning all three doubles matched en route to claiming the 7-2 win over the Britons.
With the victory, Alma improves to 4-5 on the year with a 1-0 mark in league play. Albion drops to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in MIAA action with the loss.
The tandem of So. Bryan Schutte (Jenison/Jenison) and Sr. Trent Pontious (Caledonia/Caledonia) kicked off the match with a close 9-7 victory at first doubles to put Alma up 1-0.
The duo of Jr. Jared Guy (Portland/Portland) and Fr. Luke Van Fleet (Rockford/Rockford) would follow suit at second doubles, claiming the 8-5 victory to put the Scots up 2-0 with one doubles match remaining.
Fr. Damien Arthur (Munising/Munising) and So. Grant Hill (Caro/Caro) completed the trifecta to put Alma up 3-0, winning 8-3 at third flight.
Following a loss at first singles, the Scots would record three-straight wins, with Pontious (6-7,6-2,1-0), Guy (6-2,6-1) and Hill (6-2,6-2) each emerging victorious to put Alma up 6-1 with two matches remaining.
Albion earned the victory at fifth singles, before Fr. Noah Ackerman (Munising/Munising) would close out the afternoon with a 6-3,6-1 win at sixth position to give the Scots the impressive 7-2 victory on the road.
Alma returns home on Sunday, March 29, welcoming Adrian College for a match at noon.
