Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team hosted Adrian College in what turned out to be the last game of the 2015 campaign for the Scots. The two teams competiting tonight in their last regular season game both needed a win to advance to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament, which takes the top four teams. In a heartbreak fashion Alma fell to Adrian, 3-2 ending the season for the Alma Scots.
The Scots came out strong, taking the first set 25-23 were they were led by senior Hannah Guilford (Hartland, Mich./Hardland) who grabbed five kills and five digs while sophomore Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) notched eight assists. Set two, the Scots continued to dominate, taking the set in a quick 25-15 margin. Junior Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern) grabbed four kills and junior Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) had three kills.
The following two sets were Bulldog driven. Adrian's adjustments allowed them to contain a Scots powerful offensive attack, and the Bulldogs took set three 25-22 and set four 25-11.
Onto the fifth and final set. Adrian started off strong and took a quick 7-3 lead, but the Scots were not done fighting. Alma battled to take the lead back and found themselves ahead 12-10. Eventually the Bulldogs were able to edge out the Scots 15-13 in the heartbreaker. Pelach finished with 26 assists and 21 digs while Guilford led the Alma attack with 21 kills. Senior Maggie Miller (Frankfort, Mich./Frankfort) recorded five blocks in the match.
Seniors Hannah Guilford, Maggie Miller, and Addie Loftus (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth) were honored after the game in an emotional send-off ceremony.
The Alma Scots' season concludes 12-16 overall and 8-8 in the MIAA, finishing fifth in the conference.
