Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team is winding down their season with only three MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) games left to play and today they traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich. to take on nationally ranked #4 Calvin College. Alma fell to Calvin and is now 10-15 overall and 6-7 in the MIAA holding hope to make the conference tournament, while Calvin improves to 24-3 overall and keeps an unblemished 14-0 record in the conference. 

Alma gave Calvin a run for their money in the first set cutting Calvin's lead to 14-12 after a kill from junior Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern) but an 8-2 run gave Calvin the lead they needed to defeat Alma set one 25-16.

Set two was similar for Alma and they even held the 13-10 lead over the Knights on a kill from junior Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) but Alma allowed Calvin to go on yet another run ultimately being brought down 25-19.

The Scots found themselves down early in the third set and were brought down by the Knights 25-11. This set sealed the day for the Knights and the Scots were defeated 3-0.

Senior Hannah Guilford (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) and sophomore Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) recorded a team high six kills a piece. Guilford also picked up a team high 10 digs and Pelach team high 13 assists. 

Alma will return home this week as they host Trine University on Tuesday (Oct. 27) at 6:30 p.m. in a battle for a spot in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament.
