Box Score Waterville, Ohio - The Alma College volleyball team returned from Ohio with a 3-0 victory under their belt taking down Otterbein College (25-15, 25-21, 25-23). After the win the Scots improved to 7-10 overall increasing their win streak to two, while Otterbein fell to 9-8.
In the first set the Scots hit season best .414 with 15 kills on 29 total attacks with only three errors. After a kill by senior Hannah Guilford (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) the Scots took the 11-9 lead and never looked back bringing down the cardinals 25-15.
Otterbein jumped out to a quick lead in the second set but after an error Alma capitalized tying the game 5-5. It was a back and forth game but a kill from junior Madison Smith (Westphalia, Mich. Pewamo-Westphalia) and an Otterbein error sealed the set and the Scots won 25-21.
Alma capitalized off of three Otterbein errors early to give Alma the quick 5-1 advantage. Otterbein went on a seven point run to take the lead over Alma 23-21 but two Cardinal errors and kills from Smith and junior Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern) gave the Scots the 25-23 victory.
The Scots were paced by junior Kendall Sells (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) who tallied 10 kills. Smith followed with nine kills and finished with a hitting percentage of .538, her best of the season.
After being on the road the last three games the Scots will return to Art Smith Arena as they host Saint Mary's College on Tuesday (Oct. 6) with a game time set for 7:00 p.m.
