The Alma Women's Bowling team embarked Illinois' largest bowling center over the weekend to take part in the Kegel ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic. Led by Jr. Lillie Miller's (Sandusky/Sandusky) tournament-best 1333, the Scots finished the event tied with Robert Morris University (IL) for ninth place with 8517 total pins.
The event featured 56 varsity teams, bowling six regular games on Saturday and 16 Baker games on Sunday.
With such a large number of teams competing, each program was assigned a bracket or "squad" in which they would compete. The Scots were selected for squad B, a group that featured six of the top-10 finishers.
After bowling a 991 in its first regular game, Alma recorded an impressive 1022 to take over first place within its squad after two matches.
The Scots held held onto first for the next four games, before shooting their low round of 904 to drop down to fourth in squad B.
At the conclusion of squad play, Alma sat in fifth place overall heading into the final day of competition.
The Scots struggled during Sunday's Baker games, shooting a 714, 664, 763 and a 652 in the four-game set to finish the event tied for ninth place with 8517 total pins.
Miller was named captain of the all-tournament team after bowling an 8517 to lead all females. Fr. Brianna Pitre (Saginaw/Carrollton) shot a 1215 to take 12th place, while Jr. Heather Lafnear (Oxford/Oxford) took 45th after shooting a 1131.
Alma returns to the lanes on Saturday, January 31, when they head to Waterford, MI to take part in the American Heartland #3.
