On Saturday, the Alma College Volleyball team traveled to Holland, Michigan to take on Hope College and the University of Chicago in a Tri-Match. They lost both matches on the day by 3-0 scores.

Against the Flying Dutch, Alma lost 17-25, 11-25 and 13-25. Then, against the University of Chicago, the Scots were defeated 14-25, 22-25 and 23-25.

"We need to learn how to play with the confidence that I have seen us play with every day in practice," said Alma Head Coach Sarah Dehring. ""When we compete and believe, I am confident we will challenge any opponent. We started strong against Hope and then lost our competitive edge and drive. That continued into the Chicago match until it was too late."

Statistically, in the Hope match, Jr. OH/DS Hannah Guilford (Hartland/Hartland) paced Alma with nine kills and added five digs. So. S Mary Dulzo (Novi/Mercy) had a team-high nine assists and had four digs, while So. OH/DS Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc/Grand Blanc) contributed five assists and three digs.

Against Chicago, So. OH/DS Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern) had a team-best 13 kills and had seven digs, while Dulzo had 34 assists and 12 digs. Jr. OH/MH Maggie Miller (Frankfort/Frankfort) had nine kills and Maressa Miller finished with 10 digs. Guilford added five kills and nine digs in the match.

Alma is off until next Friday when they begin play in the Carthage College (WI) tournament. The Scots are scheduled to play four more matches in two days at the competition.
