With the split, Alma is now 9-11 on the season, while Hiram fell to 14-2 and Denison improved 7-9 after the respective matches.
"The first match we came out kind of flat and really looked like we were playing with doubt in our minds," said Scots Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "We did do some things well like pass, but overall had a tough time as a total unit.
"Hopefully the Hiram match can be a turning point in our season. They are a very good team but we did some really great things and played exceptional together. They had some opportunites for match points, but the girls never quit. Hopefully what we learned this weekend is that if we play together and with confidence, we can be a pretty good team."
In the first match, So. S Mary Dulzo (Novi/Mercy) paced the Scots with 22 assists, while So. DS/L Molly Lark (Middleville/Thornapple-Kellogg) had a team-high 10 digs. In addition, Jr. OH/DS Hannah Guilford (Hartland/Hartland) contributed eight kills and six digs in the loss.
