The Alma College Men's Tennis team wrapped up play in the NCAC-MIAA Men's Tennis Challenge on Saturday, defeating Wittenberg University 5-4 at the Collett Tennis Center in Crawfordsville, IN.
The Scots went 2-1 in the two-day event, improving to 10-8 overall.
The freshmen tandem of Bryan Schutte and and Grant Hill put Alma on the board first, securing the 8-6 victory at first doubles.
Wittenberg claimed second position,8-1, and the duo of Sr. Jared Guy and So. Joshua Gove ended doubles by claiming their sixth-straight doubles victory, 8-5, to give the Scots the 2-1 advantage entering singles.
Alma dropped the first two singles matches to surrender the lead 3-2.
The Scots would quickly gain it back however, with Hill (6-0,6-2), Schutte (6-2,6-3) and Guy (6-4,6-5) each claiming victory to put Alma up 5-2 with just one match remaining.
In sixth position, the Scots would drop a 6-5,6-4 decision but it did not make a difference, as Alma held on to take the 5-4 victory in Crawfordsville.
The Scots return to conference play on Tuesday, April 22nd, when they travel to Indiana to take on Trine University in a match set for 2:00 p.m.
