Coming off their first loss of the spring season, the Alma College Men's Tennis team looked to rebound when they welcomed Defiance College (OH) to the Stone Recreation Center on Friday afternoon. Despite playing short-handed, Alma was dominant on its home court, defeating the Yellow Jackets 9-0.
With the victory, the Scots improved to 6-5 overall and 6-1 during the spring. Following a 5-2 start to the spring, Defiance dropped its third-straight to fall to 5-5 on the year.
"We were short-handed tonight due to our #2 player being out with the flu," said Alma Head Coach Chris Sandro. "The guys did a nice job sliding up in the line up and playing well. We are really looking forward to our big match against Hope College next week."
The freshmen duo of Grant Hill and Bryan Schutte put Alma on the board with a 9-7 victory at first doubles.
At position two, Sr. Joshua Gove and So. Jared Guy followed with an impressive 8-0 win to put the Scots up 2-0.
The tandem of Fr. Damian Arthur and Sr. Gordon Rumschlag closed out the doubles portion of the evening with an 8-2 victory at third position to give the Scots the 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.
