The Alma College Men's Tennis team kicked off its spring season on Saturday afternoon by defeating Spring Arbor University 7-2 in the Stone Recreation Center.
With the victory, the Scots improve to 1-4 for the 2013-14 season. The Cougars drop to 3-7 overall with the loss.
Alma was dominant on its home court on Saturday, claiming seven victories in nine matches against Spring Arbor. The Scots were a perfect 3-3 in doubles action and each of their four singles wins came in just two sets.
Seniors Joshua Gove and Logan Beard both claimed 6-4,6-3 victories in singles to start the day. Fr. Bryan Schutte notched the 6-3,6-4 victory in the fourth spot and Sr. Gordon Rumschlag was victorious at fifth singles 6-4,6-2.
In doubles, the freshmen-team of Grant Hill and Schutte took the 9-8 win at first position. The tandem of Beard and Rumschlag won 8-5 in second position and Gove and So. Jared Guy got the victory at third position, 8-3.
The Scots hit the road for the next five matches, starting with Franklin College (IN) on Feb. 21 at 6:00 p.m.
