Alma Women's Bowling leaves Ohio with two victories over the weekend

The Alma College Women's Bowling team headed to Columbus, OH over the weekend to take part in the opening two events of the American Heartland Tournament series. The Scots left the Buckeye State with two victories - winning the American Heartland #1 on Saturday with a total score of 6454, while claiming victory on Sunday at the American Heartland #2 with a team score of 6759.

"Both tournaments came right down to the last Baker set," said Alma Head Coach Kyle Woodcock. "Our backs were against the wall both days and we managed to fight back to claim two wins. It really showed the heart these ladies have when they are tested."

After bowling four regular games to start Saturday afternoon, the Scots found themselves in 4th place heading into the Baker set portion of the American Heartland #1.

Alma dominated the Baker sets, jumping from fourth to first to claim victory on Saturday with a pin total of 6454.

Sr. Jessica Cords (Perry/Perry) led the Scots in the regular games, rolling a 762 in four games to take fifth place in singles.

Jr. Lillie Miller (Sandusky/Sandusky) added added a 728 series to finish 11th, while Fr. Brianna Pitre (Saginaw/Carrollton) recorded the highest score for Alma on afternoon with 221 in the final regular game.

The Scots returned to the lanes the following day to compete in the American Heartland #2. Alma jumped out to an early lead on Sunday, rolling a 982 in the first game to take the top spot after one match.

Alma held the lead throughout the remainder of the regular games before shooting the low-round of the day in the third Baker set to drop to second.

With just one Baker set left, the Scots would respond by posting the highest Baker set score of the day to regain the lead and leave Columbus with a 10-pin victory.

Fr. Catherine Pomeroy (Escanaba/Escanaba) led Alma on day two, finishing second in singles with a score of 809.

Cords placed fourth in singles with a 793, while Jr. Heather Lafnear (Oxford/Oxford) shot a 769 to finish in 7th place.

The Scots will be in Indiana from Friday, November 7, through Sunday, November 9, for the NCAA Crusader Classic.
