Box Score

On Wednesday evening, the Alma College Volleyball team hosted Adrian College in a MIAA contest at Art Smith Arena. The Scots defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 3-1 (25-13, 25-19, 21-25, 25-9) and improved to 1-3 in the MIAA and 4-4 overall. Adrian is now 0-3 in the league and 0-7 in 2013.

"We did some very good things both offensively and defensively in tonight's win against Adrian," said Scots Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "This is the aggressive play that we need to go into this tough tournament weekend at Mt. Union."

The Scots, hungry for their first league victory, came out strong in the first set and earned a 25-13 advantage. The set was tied at 6-6 but the Scots reeled off seven points in a row at one point to take a 16-9 lead. The Bulldogs couldn't recover from Alma's run and the home team closed out the set to go up 1-0.

The second set was close for much of the beginning as Adrian had an early lead and the score was knotted at 6-6 at one point. The Scots built leads of five and four points but the Bulldogs pulled within 18-17. But, Alma was a determined group and was able to prevail by a margin of 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead.

Alma then looked like they were going to win in three straight sets as they built a 18-11 lead during the third frame. However, Adrian had too much pride and determination to let that happen and gamely fought back to tie the match at 20-20. The Scots earned the next point, but the Bulldogs reeled off five in a row to shock Alma with a 25-21 win to cut their deficit to 2-1.

However, the home team was not to be denied on this evening. Alma jumped out quick in the fourth set and never trailed en route to a match ending victory. The Scots built a 15-4 advantage and Adrian could not recover this time, ultimately dropping a 25-9 decision and sending the home team off the court with the win.
