The 2013 Volleyball season kicked off for the Alma College team on Friday afternoon when they took part in day one of the Sommer Center Spiketacular hosted by Bluffton College. The Scots defeated Marietta College 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) in their first match of the day before falling to Case Western Reserve in a tough five set match (18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 12-15) in the nightcap.

"Overall, I thought we played pretty well," said Scots Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "Both teams we played today had more experience on their rosters than we do, as we are starting a younger team. But, we held our own and obviously there is room to improve after day one.

"Marietta was a scrappy, offensive team that was tough to play. But, we communicated well as at team and were able to come away with the win. Case is a very good defensive team and is was a battle all the way through. Up 2-1, we got in a hole in game four and just couldn't get over the hump in trying to come back. Set five was back and forth, but in the end, they scored the game point on an ace. Moving forward, our passing needs to improve and will be a key for us all season. But, all in all, a good first day."
