Box Score 2 The Scots 2013 Alma College Baseball team finally was able to get their weather delayed MIAA season started today when they traveled to Adrian College for a doubleheader. Alma took a 2-0 lead in the first game only to have the Bulldogs score three in the bottom of the fourth inning and then hang of for the victory.
In the nightcap, Adrian scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning enroute to a 9-0 win and a doubleheader sweep. At the end of the day, the Scots are now 0-2 in the MIAA and 4-7 overall, while Adrian is now 7-6 in 2013 and 2-2 in the league.
In the first game, Jr. IF Alex Kravat (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western) doubled to lead off the top of the second inning. Following two outs, So. OF Roderick MacNeil (Brethren, Mich./Brethren) reached on a bunt single on a play that scored Kravat.
A single by Sr. IF Matthew Cresswell (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) put runners on first and third. Then, an infield hit by Sr. IF Ryan Henris (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic) scored MacNeil, giving the Scots the two-run advantage.
Adrian struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on two walks and two hits and took a decisive 3-2 lead. The Bulldogs only had one other hit the entire game and did not advance a runner past first base. However, they had just enough offense to take game one from the visiting Scots.
In the second game, the Bulldogs scored 4 runs in the second, one in the third and two each in the fifth and sixth innings. By contrast, Alma mustered just five hits, by five different players, and runners in scoring position in just three of the game's innings.
Fr. P Colin Nash (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) took the loss on the mound as he pitched five innings and gave up five hits and seven runs (five earned), walking three and striking out two. Fr. P Blake Ordiway (Holly, Mich./Holly) pitched the sixth inning and gave up two runs on on three hits and a walk.
The two teams will play another doubleheader, again at Adrian due to field conditions at Klenk Park in Alma. The Scots will be the home team for both games on Saturday.
