Box Score On Tuesday evening, the Alma College Volleyball team began the MIAA portion of the 2012 schedule when they hosted Kalamazoo College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-19) at a raucous Art Smith Arena. The Scots improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Hornets are now 2-3 this season and 0-1 in the MIAA.
"Overall, I don't think it was our best effort, but anytime you win a league match, you need to be happy," said Alma Head Sarah Dehring. "I believe we were a bit tired from our weekend in Texas but give Kalamazoo credit for giving us a tough three games. I want to thank all the students who came and created the great environment - it no doubt helped our energy level. We are still a work in progress and we will now get ready for Olivet on Friday."
In the victory, Jr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) led the Scots with 11 kills, while Jr. S Erika VanHavel (Mason, Mich./Mason) paced the team with 31 assists and added seven kills. Sr. DS Megan Ballantyne (Allen Park, Mich./Southgate Anderson) had 13 digs, followed by Sr. OH Katie Bourbonnais (Niles, Mich./Niles) had 10 digs.
The Scots' next match will be at Olivet College on Friday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. They will then be off until September 12 when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on Calvin College, also beginning at 6:30 p.m.
