Baseball drops two games at Hope on Friday afternoon by scores of 6-1 and 13-3

The Alma College baseball team hit the road on Friday to take on Hope College in Holland and lost both games of a doubleheader by scores of 6-1 and 13-3. With the losses, the Scots are now 8-14 in the MIAA and 11-22 overall, while Hope improved to 17-17 in 2012 and 13-9 in the league.

In game one, Hope scored two runs in the second and one in third to take a 3-0 lead and coasted to the 6-1 victory. Jr. 1B Cam Schmidt (Port Austin, Mich./North Huron) accounted for the only Alma run with a homer in the top of the fourth. Sr. P Richard Schrieber (Grayling, Mich./Grayling) pitched four innings and gave up six hits and one earned run in taking the loss.

The nightcap also went the way for the Flying Dutchmen, as they scored three in the first, two in the second and one in third to take a commanding 6-2 advantage on their way to the 13-3 win. Sr. P Anthony Derrer (Mancelona, Mich. /Mancelona) pitched two innings and gave up six runs and took the loss for the Scots. 

Again, the offensive catalyst for the Scots was Schmidt, who went two for three with two homeruns in the loss. He has now accounted for all 11 Alma runs in the last three games with five homers and 10 RBI's.

The Scots will host Hope on Saturday for another doubleheader at Klenk Park, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
