Alma's Men's Golf team finishes their season third in the league after the final NCAA Qualifier

Alma College Men's Golf team concluded their 2011-12 season on Friday after competing in the third NCAA qaulifier at Hope College in Holland. The Scots finished second today behind Trine University and third overall after the three competitions.

"We gained strokes today against Hope, but in the end, it was not enough for us to close the total gap," said Alma Head Coach Ryan Duckworth. "Even though we did not get the NCAA bid, I am very proud of my guys. We had a great season and there is much to build upon next year."

MIAA men's golf champion Hope will represent the conference at next month's NCAA Division III national championships.

The Flying Dutchmen held off a charge by Trine Friday to win the MIAA's 54-hole spring qualifier that determines the conference's representative in the Division III tournament. The Thunder won Friday's third and final tournament with a score of 305, but fell five strokes short of Hope's overall total of 899 for the 54 holes.

The NCAA Division III tournament will be held May 10-13 at Howey-in-the Hills, Fla.
