Scots Baseball hosted Saginaw Valley State on Thursday afternoon and lost 20-6

The Alma College Baseball team hosted Division II Saginaw Valley State University and dropped a 20-6 decision to the Cardinals at Klenk Park. The loss gives the Scots a record of 7-15 in 2012 and SVSU improved to 15-13 on the season.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning off of Alma starting So. P Kevin Thompson (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey) and never looked back en route to the win. SVSU in each of the first six innings and totaled 16 runs in those frames.

Alma scored two runs in three different innings - first, third and fourth - and trailed 16-6 after six. For Alma, So. 3B Alex Kravat (Bay City, Mich./Western) finished the day three for four with two RBI's and a run scored, while Jr. IF Matt Cresswell (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) was two for five with an RBI. In addition, Sr. CF Ian Rhynard (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd) was one for three with an RBI and a run scored in the loss.

The Scots will travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday for an MIAA doubleheader and then host the Hornets for two games on Sunday. Both sets of games are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
