On Saturday afternoon, the Alma College Baseball team resumed MIAA action when they traveled to Adrian College to take on the Bulldogs. Adrian won the first game by a score of 7-3 and then took the nightcap 7-0 to improve to 5-1 in the MIAA and 12-4 overall, while the Scots dropped to 2-4 in the league and 4-10 in 2012.

In the first contest, Adrian scored two runs off of Alma starting P Richard Schreiber (Grayling, Mich./Grayling) in the bottom of the second inning for a 2-0 lead. The score remained that way until the Scots were able to get two of their own in the top of the fifth. After Sr. CF Ian Rhynard (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd) singled and So. DH Alex Kravat (Bay City, Mich./B.C. Western) walked, Fr. RF Blake Leddy (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) singled to tie the game at 2-2.

However, the Bulldogs answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth and run in the sixth to blow it open with a 7-2 advantage. The Scots added one in the top of the seventh after Rhynard singled and Kravat knocked him in with a single. However, that is all Alma would get and Adrian had the 7-3 victory. Schreiber went the distance for the Scots on the mound, taking the loss and falling to 1-4 on the season.

Ian Rhynard had three hits and scored two runs for the Scots on Saturday at Adrian

In the nightcap, Adrian scored one run in the second and five in the third against starting Sr. P Anthony Derrer (Mancelona, Mich./Mancelona) for a 6-0 lead and cruised to the 7-0 victory. The Scots could only muster two hits against Adrian P Rylie Robinson and never threatened to score against the Bulldogs.

Jr. P Alex Ruhlman (Algonac, Mich./Algonac) pitched two innings for Alma and gave up one run, while Fr. P Roddy MacNeil (Brethren, Mich./Brethern) threw a scoreless sixth against Adrian. Rhynard had a single for Alma and finished the day with three of team's seven total hits.

The two teams will go head-to-head again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Klenk Park in Alma.
