Scots Baseball traveled to Olivet on Sunday for a doubleheader and won both games to get a split of the weekend series

The Scots Baseball team traveled to Olivet College on Sunday for an MIAA doubleheader, one day after the Comets swept the Scots in a double dip at Klenk Park in Alma. The visitors won both games, 2-1 and 3-2 in eight innings, to gain a split of the weekend series. Both teams are now 2-2 in the MIAA and 5-7 overall in 2012.

In the first game, the Scots scored single runs in the fourth and the seventh innings, while the Comets notched a run in the bottom of the seventh, but could not erase the Alma lead, as the Scots won 2-1.

So. OF Alex Kravat (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western) scored on a throwing error in the fourth for Alma, and Jr. Matt Cresswell (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) notched the other Scots run in the seventh on a single by Sr. OF Ian Rhynard (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd). Sr. P Donny Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./GRCC) pitched a complete game for the win and gave up just five hits while recording four strikeouts.

Alma was victorious in the nightcap, as they scored runs in the third, sixth and in the extra frame of the eighth inning. A single by Cresswell scored Sr. C Matt Stephens (Maple Rapids, Mich./Fulton) for the run that proved to be the winner. So. P Kevin Thompson (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey) went seven innings on the mound and gave up two earned runs and earned the win, while So. Dan Johnson (Mancelona, Mich./Mancelona) pitched the eighth for the save.

Alma next plays on Wednesday, when they host Aquinas at Klenk Park beginning at 2:00 p.m.
