In the first MIAA doubleheader of the season, the Alma Baseball team lost both games against Olivet College on Saturday afternoon. In the first game, the dropped a 2-1 decision at Klenk Park and then lost the second game to the Comets by a score of 2-0. With the two losses, Alma is now 2-7 on the season and 0-2 in the league, while Olivet improved to 5-5 in 2012 and 2-0 in the MIAA.

In game one, Olivet scored two runs in the top of the first inning off of Alma starting pitcher Sr. Richard Schreiber (Grayling, Mich./Grayling). That proved to be the difference in the game even though Schreiber did not give up another run, finishing with a complete game, striking out five and allowing just one earned run.

The only run of the game for the Scots was scored in the bottom of the sixth, but the home team could not get the tying run to cross the plate. Jr. 2B Matt Cresswell (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) was two for three, while Sr. 3B Donny Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./GRCC) finished one for three with the lone run scored. 

In the nightcap, the Comets scored single runs in the fifth and seventh to give them the necessary runs to win the game. With the score 1-0, Lee tripled to begin the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Scots were unable to get him across the plate and the visitors scored the insurance run in the seventh.

Lee went two for three in the contest, while Sr. CF Ian Rhynard (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd) was two for two in the loss. Sr. P Anthony Derrer (Mancelona, Mich./Mancelona) went 6.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) and struck two in getting the loss. Jr. P Alex Ruhlman (Algonac, Mich./Algonac) pitched the final two thirds. 

The two teams play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Olivet, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
