Box Score

The Alma Volleyball team hosted Olivet College Saturday night and defeated the Comets 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-21) at Art Smith Arena. The Scots improved to 5-2 in the MIAA and 11-4 overall, while Olivet is now 1-5 in league play and 2-11 for the 2011 season.

"I thought we started off a little slow tonight, but bounced back relatively quickly and played our game," said Alma Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "We will use these next bye off day practices to work on our offensive game. We are not where we want to be and we need to find the combinations that will work for us."

The visiting Comets fought the Scots hard in the first set, cutting their deficit to 24-23, until a kill by So. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) ended their chances and gave Alma the 1-0 advantage. The Scots were in control throughout the second set, winning by margin of 25-10, while the third set saw Alma win 25-21.

For the game, Sr. MH Shelby Gray (Orchard Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) led the way with 10 kills, while So. OH Kelly Maise (Northville, Mich./Northville) was next with eight. Klooster and So. MH Rebecca Trosper (Sterling Heights, Mich./Lutheran North) each had six kills for home team.

So. S Erika VanHavel (Mason, Mich./Mason) continued her strong campaign with a team-high 28 assists, and Maise and Sr. DS Erica Adams (Milford, Mich./Milford) each had 12 digs in the win.

The Scots next play on Friday, when they host Trine University at Art Smith Arena, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
