Box Score The Alma College Volleyball team, took on #1 rated in the country Calvin College on Friday night in Grand Rapids and were defeated 3-0 (14-25, 17-25, 13-25). Alma is now 4-2 in the league and 10-4 overall, while the Knights improved to 5-0 in the MIAA and 13-0 thus far this season.
"I thought we played not to lose rather than aggressively trying to win," said Alma Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "When you do that against nationally ranked teams, they will eat you up, and Calvin did that tonight. We were tentative in every aspect and now we need to regroup and focus on beating Olivet tomorrow night."
The Knights took control early and never let up the three set win over the Scots. For Alma, So. S Erika VanHavel (Mason, Mich./Mason) led the team with 21 assists, while So. OH Kelly Maise (Northville, Mich./Northville) had a team-high eight kills and added seven digs. Sr. DS Erica Adams (Milford, Mich./Milford) led the team with eight digs.
Alma will host MIAA foe Olivet College on Saturday night at Art Smith Arena, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
