Box Score

The Alma Volleyball team continued MIAA play on Wednesday evening when they traveled to Notre Dame, Ind., take on league foe Saint Mary's. The Scots defeated the Belles by a score of 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19) to improve to 6-2 overall in 2011 and 3-1 in the MIAA. Saint Mary's is now 1-3 in the league and 2-6 on the season.

"At times, we played great, but other times we struggled and we need to learn to play our game every time out," said Scots Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "But, we won and I thought we served very well and that our transition game was much better. This weekend we will play two top 15 teams and two other teams that are right there. So, we will need to be disciplined and play well."

Against the Belles, So. S Erika VanHavel (Mason, Mich./Mason) led the Scots with 39 assists, while Sr. MH Shelby Gray (Orchard Lake, Mich/W. Bloomfield) had 13 kills. Defensively, So. OH Kelly Maise (Northville, Mich./Northville) and Sr. DS Erica Adams (Milford, Mich./Milford) had 21 and 20 digs respectively.

On Friday, the Scots will begin the Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. Alma will play at 10:00 a.m. against Heidelberg University and then take on Bluffton University, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
