Alma Volleyball loses to Calvin, defeats Finlandia by the score of 3-0 in a tri-match Saturday afternoon

Alma vs. Calvin

The Alma Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Calvin on Saturday afternoon (12-25, 14-25, 12-25) in an MIAA tilt. With the loss, Alma is now 17-8 on the season and 10-5 in the league, while the number one ranked Knights improved to 25-0 overall and 13-0 in the MIAA.

The Knights took control early in each set and even though the Scots fought hard in all three, Alma could not catch the visitors as they earned the victory.

Statistically, the Scots were led in kills by Sr. MH Shelby Gray (Orchard Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) with six, while So. OH Kelly Maise (Northville, Mich./Northville) added four. Jr. S Kelsee Miles (Hanover, Mich./Hanover-Horton) led the team with four assists, and Sr. S Erica Adams (Milford, Mich./Milford) finished with a team-high eight digs in the loss.

Alma vs. Finlandia

In Alma's second game of the day, the home team took care of business, as they defeated Finlandia University by a score of 3-0 (25-6, 25-9, 25-12) to earn a split for the afternoon. The Scots improved to 18-8 on the season, while the Lions dropped to 1-28 for 2011.

A well-balanced attack fueled the win for Alma, as So. MH Rebecca Trosper (Sterling Heights, Mich./Lutheran North) led the team with nine kills. Sr. OH Andria Baker (Constantine, Mich./Constantine) and Gray, playing in their last home game, added eight and seven kills respectively.

Miles paced the Scots with 27 assists and 11 digs and So. DS Jaycee Cole (Alma, Mich./Alma) added 10 digs, a career-high. Jr. DS Shelby Alexander (Roscommon, Mich./Roscommon) added six digs and two assists, while Jr. OH Liza Gross (Ashley, Mich./Ashley) contributed four kills and five digs.

The Scots next play at Olivet on Wednesday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
