Alma Volleyball defeats Albion 3-1 (25-9, 25-12, 19-25, 25-20)

On the 2010 Parent's Day, the Alma Volleyball made the Mom's and Dad's proud by playing a very solid match Saturday afternoon at Art Smith Arena. The Scots defeated the Britons by a margin of 3-1, and now have a 10-4 overall record and are 5-1 in the MIAA. Albion fell to 0-6 in the league and 3-11 overall.

The home team took charge early and defeated the visitors 25-9 and 25-12 in the first two games. Albion fought hard and won the third game by a score of 25-19, before Alma closed out the match with a 25-20 fourth game win.

Sr. S Hannah Hewitt (Harbor Springs, MI/Harbor Light Christian) paced the Scots with 34 assists and added three kills as well. Jr. MH Shelby Gray (Orchard Lake, MI/West Bloomfield) led Alma with 11 kills, but two freshmen MH's - Lea Klooster (Jenison, MI/Jenison) and Rebecca Trosper (Sterling Heights, MI/Lutheran North) were close behind with 10 kills a piece.

Sr. OH Stephanie Bradshaw (Livonia, MI/Churchill) led the team with 12 digs, while Klooster had nine, and So. OH Katie Bourbonnais (Niles, MI/Niles) and Jr. DS Erica Adams (Milford, MI/Milford) added eight.

This afternoon's game also featured a fundraising effort by the Scots for their friends in Nicaragua. The team traveled to the Central American country this August, playing matches, meeting the people and learning the culture. Today, people donated athletic balls and items that will be sent down to them so that the kids that the team met will have more gear.
