Scots Volleyball loses MIAA Tournment semi-final match versus Calvin at Hope College

The Alma Volleyball team took on Calvin College on Friday evening in a MIAA Tournament semi-final, hosted by  #1 seed Hope College and dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision (23-25, 16-25, 25-20, 19-25). The loss ended the Scots' season at 18-12, while the Knights improved to 26-3 and advanced to the league Championship.

"We played so hard tonight, and even though it hurts, we have nothing to be ashamed of with our effort," said Alma Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski. "In game one, we had a chance to win, but we just couldn't close out. After losing the second game, we came back and won game three and made it interesting in game four. I am very proud of our girls, and it was quite the match to end our season."

For the match, So. OH Katie Bourbonnais (Niles, MI/Niles) led the team with 12 kills and added nine digs, while Jr. MH Shelby Gray (Orchard Lake, MI/West Bloomfield) and Fr. OH Kelly Maise (Northville, MI/Northville), each added 11 kills.

Two seniors also played their last match for the Scots - S Hannah Hewitt (Harbor Springs, MI/Harbor Light Christian) and OH Stephanie Bradshaw (Livonia, MI/Churchill). Hewitt finished with 47 assists and nine digs against the Knights, as Bradshaw had 18 digs on the evening.

Additionally, Fr. MH Rebecca Trosper (Sterling Heights, MI/Lutheran North) contributed 10 kills and nine digs, while Fr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, MI/Jenison) finished the evening with nine kills and nine digs.

"A tough ending to this season, but I am really excited about the strong nucleus of returning players," said Luzyinski. "This program is moving forward and I love the fact that the underclassemen are saying we will not settle for anything but the best."
