Alma Volleyball loses first game, wins next three for victory over Kalamazoo

The Alma Volleyball team defeated Kalamazoo College on Friday evening, 3-1 24-26, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14), after losing the first game of the match. The Homecoming 2010 victory improved the Scots to 7-2 in the MIAA and 12-9 overall. The Hornets dropped to 5-4 in the league and 11-7 for 2010.

The first game was a tough match that we struggled a bit in and lost to Kalamazoo," said Alma Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski. "But our girls really battled, stayed focused and closed out the match with three consecutive solid wins. We have had a tough stretch of late, but tonight we dug deep and got it done."

Scots Jr. MH Shelby Gray (Orchard Hills, MI/West Bloomfield) led the team with 17 kills, while Fr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, MI/Jenison) and Fr. MH Rebecca Trosper (Sterling Heights, MI/Lutheran North) had 13 and 10 kills respectively.

Sr. S Hannah Hewitt (Harbor Springs, MI/Harbor Light Christian) paced Alma with 46 assists, while Sr. OH Stephanie Bradshaw (Livonia, MI/Churchill) had 16 digs. Fr. OH Kelly Maise (Northville, MI/Northville) and So. OH Katie Bourbonnais (Niles, MI/Niles) both added 10 digs for the Scots.

Alma will host Adrian College on Wednesday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Art Smith Arena.
