The Alma Volleyball team hit the road Wednesday evening to take on Albion in one of the last three games of the regular season. The Scots came away with a hard-fought 3-1 victory (17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23), to improve to 11-3 in the MIAA and 16-10 overall, while the Britons are now 4-21 in 2010 and 0-14 in the league.
Albion came out strong in the first game and jumped on the Scots early, before ultimately winning the first match 25-17. The second game was tight throughout, before the Scots pulled out the 25-21 advantage, and Alma also won the third game 25-17.
The Britons were stubborn on this evening however, and pushed Alma hard in the fourth game. It was tied at 23-23, until the Scots closed it out with the final two points and the victory.
Sr. S Hannah Hewitt (Harbor Springs, MI/Harbor Light Christian) finished with 35 assists and 10 digs on Wednesday, while Fr. OH Kelly Maise (Northville, MI/Northville) added 14 kills and 19 digs in the win.
Jr. MH Shelby Gray (Orchard Lake, MI/West Bloomfield) notched 12 kills, Fr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, MI/Jenison) had nine kills and Sr. OH Stephanie Bradshaw (Livonia, MI/Churchill) finished the match with 24 digs.
The Scots close out the regular season with matches at Olivet on Friday evening (6:30 p.m.) and Calvin on Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.). Alma will host a first-round playoff game on Tuesday evening at Art Smith Arena.
