VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS ADRIAN COLLEGE 3-1 ON WEDNESDAY

Alma's Volleyball Team completed the first half of their 2009 MIAA schedule on Wednesday evening with a 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23) victory over Adrian College at Cappaert Gymnasium. The win improved the Scots to 8-8 overall (5-3 in MIAA), while the Bulldogs fell to 2-9 (1-6 MIAA) on the season.

"We finished the first half of our league schedule strong and that is a good feeling," said Alma Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski. "We need to continue to compete at a high level, especially with the road games we have on the back end of our schedule."

Shelby Gray led the Scots with 15 kills, while Katie Bourbonnais had 10. Beth Caldwell and Kelsey Thompson each had nine kills, while Hannah Hewitt again led the way with 32 assists for the home team. Hewitt and Stephanie Bradshaw, MIAA Specialty Player of the Week, each had 19 digs for the Scots, while Caldwell hadded 15 and Erica Adams 11.

Alma has this weekend off from competition and will next play Thursday, October 8, when they travel to Olivet College to begin the second half of the MIAA schedule. The following night, October 9, the Scots will play host to rival Hope College at Cappaert Gymnasium as part of the Homecoming 2009 festivities. Start time for that match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
