The Alma Volleyball team returned home on Tuesday evening to take on league rival Kalamazoo College and came away with a hard-fought three game match, winning by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22. The Scots improved to 6-7 (3-2 MIAA) with the victory, while the Hornets dropped to 6-8 (1-3 MIAA) in 2009.
"It was not a pretty win, but it still was a league win, and that is what matters," said Alma Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski. "I told the girls that I felt that we played on step ahead to get the win. Moving forward this weekend, we must play Alma volleyball against Calvin and Trine if we are to be successful. Becca Ratkov had a great game for us tonight as she made big plays for us when we needed it."
Fr. MH Ratkov (New Baltimore, MI/Anchor Bay) led the Scots with 10 kills, while So. MH Shelby Gray (Bloomfield Hills, MI/W. Bloomfield) was close behind with nine on the evening. Jr. S Hannah Hewitt (Alanson, MI/Harbor Light Christian) again paced Alma with 26 assists, while Jr. OH Stephanie Bradshaw (Livonia, MI/Churchill) was tops with 14 digs. So. DS Erica Adams (Milford, MI/Milford) added 11 digs for the home team.
The Scots next play on Friday evening when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on #10 Calvin College in another tough league tilt. Alma will then return home the following afternoon, when they will host rival Trine University. Starting time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Cappaert Gymnasium.
